8-Hour Emergency Response Refresher

August 25, 2022 | 8am – 4pm
TNEC – Lowell Training Center, Lowell , MA

This 8-hour course is designed for members of emergency response teams in the public and/or private sector. It is intended for participants who have completed a 24-hour emergency response basic operations course and are required to attend an annual
refresher. The curriculum for the Refresher is reviewed and modified each year to reflect new modules.

The typical curriculum includes small group activities that review the following:

  1. Health and safety problems the class participants encountered in the past year, what they learned from the problems, what is being done differently, what changes could be implemented
  2. The HAZWOPER Standard (29 CFR 1910.12) and how it applies to the participants’ work
  3. The use of NIOSH Pocket Guide & Safety Data Sheets, and their importance in determining appropriate level of PPE
  4. HAZWOPER/Emergency Response review game
  5. The use of respiratory protection and Personal Protective Equipment
  6. Decontamination procedures
  7. Spill control procedures
  8. Actions the participants might take to improve safety when they return to work

The Refresher concludes with a final Emergency Response
Table-Top Activity relating to the evaluation of a chemical
spill/release at an industrial or public works facility, or
chemical storage facility, and how the spill response should
proceed.
