8-Hour Hazardous Waste Site Worker Refresher

This 8-hour training is intended for personnel who have participated in a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Site Worker Training (TNEC Course #101, or equivalent) and who are required to participate annually in an 8-Hour Refresher training.

The curriculum for the Site Worker Refresher is reviewed and modified each year to reflect new modules.

The typical curriculum includes small-group activities
that review the following:

  • Health and safety problems the class participants encountered in the past year, what they learned from the problems, what is being done differently, what changes could be implemented
  • The HAZWOPER Standard (29 CFR 1910.12) and how it applies to the participants’ work
  • The NIOSH Pocket Guide & Safety Data Sheets, and their importance in determining appropriate level of PPE
  • HAZWOPER review game
  • The use of respiratory protection and Personal Protective Equipment
  • Air monitoring equipment and procedure
  • Decontamination procedures spill control procedures
  • Actions the participants might take to improve safety when they return to work

The Refresher concludes with a final Table-Top Activity
relating to the evaluation of a storage facility suspected
to contain hazardous materials/wastes and how removal of same should proceed.
