Opioids and the Workplace

This no-cost, 3-hour virtual Zoom course is adapted from the NIEHS Opioids in the Workplace: Prevention and Response training which is intended for workers and employers who may be impacted by the opioid crisis. The goal of the course is to provide an evidence-based worker awareness training program that identifies workplace risk factors and solutions for opioid use, misuse, and addiction.

The topics include: the scope and severity of the opioid crisis; the relationship between workplace injuries and illnesses, working conditions, and opioid use disorder; commonly prescribed opioids, occupational exposures and preventive measures to prevent opioid use and misuse in and out of the workplace; community efforts to address the opioid epidemic, including efforts by local health departments and outreach teams; workplace substance use prevention programs; employee assistance and peer assistance programs; and, programs and resources for substance use treatment available through workplaces, unions, and other organizations.
